Today's KNOWLEDGE Share:JERA COMMITMENT TO AMMONIA COAL FIRING THERMAL POWER PLANT

Today's KNOWLEDGE Share:

JERA(Japan) went one step forward to a 40% Hydrogen-LNG co-firing thermal power plant at Linden Gas Thermal Power Station Unit 6 in New Jersey, the USA.
JERA will launch a 20% Ammonia-Coal cofiring thermal power plant test operation in 2023, which is one year ahead of schedule.

Japan has been developing Hydrogen cofiring thermal power plants and Ammonia cofiring power plants simultaneously because about 72.9% of energy resource is fossil fuel thermal power plants as of FY2021. If Japan can realize lower emission thermal power plants, the system will contribute to the Carbon-Neutral 2050.
Owing to the narrow land space, the renewable energy rate can not expand easily in Japan. So, a combination of Hydrogen, Ammonia, Renewable energy, and Nuclear power is a realistic approach.
