The vessel was designed and developed by #Xocean , with Norco providing manufacturing expertise in lightweight resin infused composite structures, critical to achieving a weight efficient, high-performance platform. Building on Xocean’s established uncrewed technology platform, Norco brought its expertise in design for manufacture, tool design, and material selection to optimise production from the outset. As part of the programme, Xocean also engaged naval architect Rockabill Marine Design, with regular coordination across all parties ensuring an efficient and aligned delivery process. The scope included composite structural assembly and first fix outfitting, with opportunities identified during the build to further enhance production efficiency. Insights from the initial build phase have been incorporated into ongoing production, with the second vessel now complete and a third in build as the fleet moves into series manufacture. James Ives, CEO of Xocean, said: “We are very grate...

New Omnix® material helps manufacturers create more reliable, affordable sanitary products for the growing market #Syensqo has launched  #Omnix®DW -4650, a new resin designed to make sanitary fittings safer, tougher, and more cost-effective. As demand rises for modern #showers and #faucets , manufacturers are looking for alternatives to metal parts that can lower costs and improve performance. Omnix® DW-4650 meets this need by offering strong resistance to #freezing and #cracking , even in very cold temperatures. Omnix® DW-4650 is a high-performance #polyamide compound engineered to deliver superior freeze resistance, mechanical strength, and long-term durability. The material passes 5–6 freeze-thaw cycles at −5°C under internal water pressure outperforming conventional plastics and exceeding customer specifications. It retains exceptional toughness after 1,500 hours of hydrolytic aging at 60°C, ensuring reliable performance throughout the product lifecycle. The grade also meet...

That’s why dimensional reports are a fundamental step in validating high-precision parts and tooling. At Star Moldes, dimensional reporting goes beyond simply measuring parts, it ensures that design intent, functionality, and manufacturability are fully aligned. 🔍 What must be taken into account when creating a dimensional report? ✔️ Measurement strategy: Choosing the right technology (CMM, optical systems, gauges) for the geometry and tolerance requirements. ✔️ Datum definition and alignment: Ensuring measurements follow the same references defined in the design. ✔️ Environmental control: Temperature and calibration can significantly influence micron-level measurements. ✔️ Focus on critical features: Tight tolerances and func...

Circular polyamide 6 from Envalior cuts the carbon footprint of Vimar Linea switches by 80%

Image
Vimar SpA, an Italian global company specializing in sustainable electrical wiring devices and smart home solutions, based in Marostica, Italy, has launched Linea, a new wiring devices series that lowers environmental impact while maintaining stylish design and state-of-the-art technology.  The mounting frames for the switches are injection molded with Envalior's highly reinforced Durethan® Blue BKV60H2.0EF, a sustainable polyamide 6 that consists of around 90% circular raw materials. This compound, together with optimized production processes, improved product management, and the use of sustainably certified packaging materials, has been a key driver for Vimar in reducing the carbon footprint of the switch series by over 80% compared to previous fossil-based solutions. This translates into an annual reduction of 500 tons of CO₂ emissions. "We are very pleased that Linea is making a major contribution to climate and resource protection. Sustainable construction materials such ...

Avient Corporation, a premier provider of specialized and sustainable materials solutions and services, today announced the introduction of new Gravi-Tech™ Density Modified Formulation grades with low shrinkage, offering luxury packaging customers an alternative to #acrylonitrilebutadienestyrene (ABS) based materials.  Many original equipment manufacturers and plastic #injectionmolding companies in the packaging industry are prioritizing the replacement of #ABS . This decision is primarily influenced by recent regulatory requirements such as California’s Proposition 65, which includes the monomers acrylonitrile, butadiene, and styrene, and a recent #Frenchlaw prohibiting #styrenicmaterials in #packaging . While polypropylene (PP) is widely accepted in the packaging industry, it has higher #shrinkage rates than ABS, making it challenging to use as a direct replacement for existing molds.  To enable customers to use their existing ABS molds, Avient has developed new PP-base...
