Today, the #EuropeanCommission published guidelines on the implementation of the Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation ( #PPWR ) to facilitate the uniform application of the new packaging rules across the EU and simplify compliance for economic actors and Member States. The full application of this law will contribute to a more sustainable and competitive packaging sector across the EU and to strengthening the Single Market for packaging through common rules. On average, in 2023, each European generated 178kg of packaging waste. Without intervention, total packaging waste could further rise by 19% by 2030 compared to 2018 levels, while plastic waste could rise by as much as 46%. On 31 March 2026, Grupa Azoty signed a preliminary agreement with Orlen for the sale of 100% of the shares in GA Polyolefins. The transaction value is PLN 1.183 billion and the transaction will be carried out on a cash-free and debt-free basis. Following in the footsteps of AOC earlier this month, #TorayIndustries has announced the introduction of ‘surcharge pricing’ on certain products as an ’emergency measure’ to address the sharp rise in the prices of crude oil, naphtha and other raw materials resulting from escalating tensions in the Middle East, citing in particular the conflict involving Iran and the blockade of the Strait of Hormuz. The Japanese manufacturer states that these additional costs will mainly apply to products directly affected by fluctuations in the prices of petrochemical raw materials, such as crude oil and naphtha, namely performance chemicals, #carbonfibre composites as well as fibres and textiles.
