PA6 and PA66 are widely used engineering plastics, but selecting an antistatic additive for nylon requires careful evaluation.

Why?

𝟏. 𝐏𝐀𝟔 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐏𝐀𝟔𝟔 𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐧𝐨𝐭 𝐢𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐜𝐡𝐚𝐧𝐠𝐞𝐚𝐛𝐥𝐞.

They differ in molecular structure, melting behavior, and processing requirements. An additive suitable for one grade may not deliver the same performance in the other.

𝟐. 𝐍𝐲𝐥𝐨𝐧 𝐚𝐛𝐬𝐨𝐫𝐛𝐬 𝐦𝐨𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐞.

Moisture can influence dimensional stability, mechanical properties, and electrical behavior. Excessive moisture during melt processing can also contribute to hydrolytic degradation.

𝟑. 𝐇𝐮𝐦𝐢𝐝𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐜𝐚𝐧 𝐚𝐟𝐟𝐞𝐜𝐭 𝐚𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐜 𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐦𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐞.

Some conventional antistatic agents rely partly on moisture at the material surface. Their effectiveness may decrease under low-humidity conditions.

𝟒. 𝐏𝐨𝐥𝐲𝐦𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐜 𝐚𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐜 𝐦𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐚𝐥𝐬 𝐫𝐞𝐪𝐮𝐢𝐫𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐢𝐫 𝐨𝐰𝐧 𝐯𝐚𝐥𝐢𝐝𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧.

Compatibility, dispersion, thermal stability, and the selected PA grade all influence the final result.

𝟓. 𝐓𝐞𝐬𝐭 𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐝𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬 𝐦𝐚𝐭𝐭𝐞𝐫.

Surface resistivity should be evaluated using a defined test method, temperature, relative humidity, and conditioning period.

The goal is not simply to achieve a target electrical value once, but to understand how the complete formulation performs under the conditions that matter to the application.

Note: The base resistivity values shown are for neat nylon; antistatic additives will bring resistivity down to ESD-safe range.
