Some innovations quietly become the standard.

The industry’s first Santoprene® TPV glass run channel, developed with Cooper Standard and first launched in 2002, has been named the 2026 SPE® Automotive Hall of Fame winner.

Replacing EPDM rubber in the channel where side windows travel meant matching a material the industry had trusted for decades, with a thermoplastic. Developing the material and the part together is what made it work.

The switch cut part weight by around 30 to 50% compared with EPDM, and TPV can be reprocessed and recycled at end of life. Today, TPV accounts for around 55% of the global glass run channel market.

Congratulations to our partners at Cooper Standard and thank you to SPE for the recognition. The award will be presented at SPE’s 55th Annual Automotive Innovation Awards Gala on 4 November.
