Rigid PVC is heat and shear sensitive, and conventional melt pump designs create exactly the conditions that cause it to burn, yellow, or seize bearings entirely. Tight intermeshing gears generate hot spots; slow-moving lubrication zones become dead spaces where RPVC chars and degrades.
MAAG Group's extrex6 EC pump was designed specifically to address these failure modes. Its gap-free design eliminates dead spaces and reduces residence times, preventing material from adhering or accumulating inside the pump.
Developed and tested in partnership with REHAU from 2022–2024, the pump has been in production at a REHAU facility in Spain with measurable results:
- Temperature increase through the pump held to 6°C
- Extruder motor load reduced by up to 20%
- Pressure fluctuations at the die minimized, yielding significant profile quality improvements
- Potential throughput gains from stabilized pressure output
REHAU plans to incrementally deploy the units on additional extrusion lines worldwide.
