The agreement aims to strengthen the connection between industry and research, promoting advanced research activities and experimental development focused on the design of new smart materials capable of meeting the market needs increasingly driven by lightweight design, high performance and technological innovation.

The partnership brings together two complementary areas of expertise. IPCB-CNR contributes the scientific excellence and multidisciplinary capabilities of its 73 researchers and 11 technologists, while Xenia brings more than 30 years of industrial experience in reinforced composite materials, combined with a strong innovation-driven approach and a forward-looking vision focused on the technologies and applications of tomorrow.

At the core of the agreement is the development of materials engineered for injection moulding, a key technology for industrial production, but also for the most advanced manufacturing platforms, including pellet- and filament-based 3D printing.

The collaboration targets the formulation of future-oriented materials that combine tailored engineering properties with integrated smart functionalities, such as self-healing behaviour, energy absorption, EMI shielding and electrical conductivity.

These functionalities will be achieved through advanced composite architectures reinforced with carbon fibres, nanofillers and graphene, allowing researchers to explore optimized mechanical performance and expanded design flexibility for the development of innovative, high-performance applications in engineering-intensive sectors such as aerospace, defence and energy.
