Omya launches Omyaprene™ 50 C, a new functional filler designed to help rubber manufacturers reduce carbon black consumption, lower the carbon footprint of their compounds, and support more sustainable formulations. "With Omyaprene™ 50 C, manufacturers can take a meaningful step toward reducing carbon black consumption and supporting lower compound carbon footprints, while continuing to meet demanding performance requirements," said Christophe Roux, Commercialization Manager Material Science Polymers - Europe, Middle East & Africa.

Omyaprene™ 50 C has demonstrated the capability to replace up to 50 wt. % of virgin and recovered #carbonblack grades N550, N660, and N770 in selected rubber applications, including #EPDMcompounds, NBR/SBR flooring compounds, and #naturalrubber (NR) formulations. Laboratory and industrial evaluations conducted by #Omya have shown that it can maintain critical performance characteristics including tensile strength, compression set, elongation at break, and tear resistance within validated application areas.

Significant carbon footprint reduction Manufactured at Omya’s production site in Omey, France, Omyaprene™ 50 C delivers an estimated carbon footprint lower than 0.18 kg CO₂-e per kilogram of product, compared to approximately 2.77 kg CO₂-e per kilogram for conventional carbon black. 2 This significant difference creates an opportunity for rubber manufacturers to reduce the overall carbon footprint of their compounds while maintaining processing efficiency and product performance.

Carbon footprint and processing benefits in validated formulations Beyond its carbon footprint benefits, #Omyaprene™50 C offers practical processing advantages: lower mixing torque and improved flow properties, while preserving established extrusion and curing conditions. It works with both sulfurand peroxide-curing systems, giving manufacturers a way to reduce reliance on carbon-intensive raw materials without compromising the mechanical and processing performance their formulations depend on. Commercial availability Omyaprene™ 50 C is now commercially available, offering rubber manufacturers a cost-efficient path to lower-carbon formulations. Customers can request evaluation samples and begin testing the product in their formulations immediately. For additional information about Omyaprene™ 50 C, its applications, and technical resources, please consult the Omyaprene™ 50 C product page.
