A groundbreaking collaboration between #ExxonMobil Signature Polymers, #GreenageIndustries, and #ReinhardtTeknik is revolutionizing #kayak production through advanced materials technology that delivers superior performance while reducing manufacturing time and energy consumption.
The partnership addresses longstanding challenges in rotational molding, a preferred manufacturing process for large hollow articles including water tanks, agrochemical containers, and custom marine sports equipment. While rotational molding offers significant design flexibility and cost advantages, the process has historically struggled with high energy consumption and extended cycle times.
Greenage Industries, a leading South Asian compounder and exporter of rotomolding powders, joined forces with Reinhardt Teknik, a prominent global rotomolding machine original equipment manufacturer (OEM), to develop kayaks that combine durability, toughness, and aesthetic appeal while supporting more efficient production methods.
The collaboration centered on ExxonMobil's Exceed Tough m 4536, a high-performance metallocene polyethylene resin specifically designed for #rotomolding applications. The material's uniform molecular architecture provides critical advantages throughout the manufacturing process.
"Integrating ExxonMobil's metallocene LLDPE into our rotomolding formulations unlocked a new level of performance and versatility. Its high uniform molecular architecture ensures smoother extrusion, superior low-temperature ARM impact, and a consistently wide processing window — critical for maintaining quality across varied rotomolding conditions."
The metallocene polyethylene demonstrates superior aging and stress crack performance compared to conventional compounded Ziegler-Natta C6LL grades, while offering enhanced toughness that translates directly into longer-lasting products.
Comprehensive approach combines expertise across value chain
The development process leveraged specialized knowledge from each partner. ExxonMobil Signature Polymers provided materials expertise, Greenage Industries developed compounded colored powder formulations, and Reinhardt Teknik contributed machine and processing knowledge.
This integrated approach enabled the team to optimize every aspect of production, from raw material selection through final product manufacturing. The result is a kayak that meets demanding performance requirements while achieving significant efficiency gains.
"As a leading machine OEM, we work with industry-leading resin suppliers to evaluate new materials providing holistic solutions to our customers," said Rustom Patell of Reinhardt Teknik. "ExxonMobil's latest rotomolding #metalloceneLLDPE demonstrates excellent heat stability at elevated temperatures.es over conventional PE, which is of great value to rotomolders.
