There are two main strategies:

Their mission:
Stop the active radicals.
When a radical attacks the polymer chain,
primary antioxidants capture it before it can continue the degradation cycle.
They are the first line of defense.

⚙️ Secondary Antioxidants
Their mission:
Prevent new radicals from being created.
During oxidation, unstable hydroperoxides can form.
If they break down, they generate more radicals.
Secondary antioxidants remove these dangerous intermediates before they restart the oxidation cycle.

Think about polymer protection like a security system:

Stops the attacker.
⚙️ Secondary antioxidant:
Stops the next wave of attackers from being created.

Together: Primary + Secondary antioxidants create a stronger stabilization strategy.
