A door trim panel may look like a single component, but every surface has a different purpose—and a different engineering requirement.

Class-A → The customer's interface.

Visible, touchable, and judged on appearance.

Class-B → The functional structure.

Hidden after assembly, but critical for strength, fit, and function.

Class-C → The hidden framework.

Internal geometry where DFM, draft, and manufacturability matter more than cosmetics.

The right surface classification doesn't just define quality—it influences tooling cost, tolerances, polishing effort, inspection requirements, and overall part cost.

Class-A is the promise to the customer.

Class-B and Class-C are the promise to the build.

๐Ÿ’ฌ Which surface class do you think is the most challenging to design correctly—Class-A, Class-B, or Class-C? Share your thoughts in the comments.
