Back to fundamentals. 👀
One of the most important variables in composite design is not just the material itself, but how the reinforcement is arranged within the laminate.
Short fibers, chopped strand mats, woven fabrics and unidirectional reinforcements can all be made from the same fiber, yet deliver very different mechanical properties.
Why?
Because fiber orientation directly influences how loads are transferred through the structure. The more aligned the fibers are with the applied load, the more efficiently the material can carry it.
This is why reinforcement architecture is such a critical design parameter in composite engineering.
Same constituent materials.
Completely different structural behavior. 🕵🏻♀️
What trends do you notice in the graph? 🤔
