SABIC, a global leader in the chemical industry, today launched its new #LNP™ELCRIN™DC0051RC1 compound, containing 75 percent post-consumer recycled (#PCR) content, to enhance product circularity while delivering high-performance mechanical properties. This is SABIC’s first PCR-based #carbonfiber-reinforced compound. Formulated with #polycarbonate (PC) resin, this specialty material provides excellent dimensional stability, high modulus and thin-wall #UL94V0 flame retardancy (FR), making it well suited for consumer #electronicshousings.
“SABIC supports customers by developing new materials that enhance circularity,” said Sergi Monros, vice president, SABIC’s Specialties BU. “But we do more than incorporate recycled, upcycled or bio-based content in our specialty #thermoplastics. Our formulation experts also achieve high levels of performance, aesthetics and processability. For instance, our new LNP ELCRIN compound combines a high percentage of #recycledcontent with many desirable properties. We’re committed to helping customers improve circularity without sacrificing quality.
For LNP ELCRIN DC0051RC1 compound, SABIC developed a new formulation designed to support circularity goals while maintaining key mechanical and FR properties. Incorporating recycled material while maintaining FR performance can present formulation challenges; however, the SABIC team achieved a UL94 V0 rating at 0.8mm. Besides lightweighting through thin-wall geometry, the material provides dimensional stability and #lowwarpage for #laptophousings and other large, structural components.
In addition to improving circularity through the incorporation of 75 percent PCR content, the compound features a non-chlorinated/non-brominated FR chemistry to help reduce health risks and negative impacts on the environment.
LNP ELCRIN DC0051RC1 compound is commercially available globally.
