Toray Industries, Inc., announced today that #TorayIndustries(India) Private Limited has decided to build a new production facility for #TORELINA™ at its site in Sri City, Andhra Pradesh.
Operations should start in early 2027 at what will be Toray’s first in-house PPS compound production line in India. Supplies of samples to customers will begin in April 2027, with full-fledged mass production starting as soon as possible.
Toray will augment nylon and polybutylene terephthalate resin compounds that it already makes in India by establishing an integrated in-house PPS resin compound production system. It will expand its range of engineering plastics for #automotive electrical components and engine parts to optimize product design and process conditions to ensure quality, ensure consistent quality, and accelerate production ramp-ups and ongoing improvements. The company will thereby establish a highly reliable supply structure for mass production and provide attentive technical services while optimizing quality control for the local market.
With real annual gross domestic product growth of around 7%, the Indian market offers considerable potential. Demand for automobiles, appliances, and other luxury and high-value-added goods is expanding with income levels. Under the Make in India initiative, which aims to transform the nation into an industrial powerhouse, domestic manufacturers are stepping up efforts to locally source and produce various components. The Production-Linked Incentive scheme is also prompting companies to swiftly increase local sourcing rates.
Demand in India is thus robust for locally manufacturing and sourcing resin materials. Also, demand is surging for switching from imported materials to locally made alternatives. Toray will strengthen its support system in India by opening a new office in Pune, Maharashtra, in July 2026. The company will bolster its business foundations in the Indian market by expanding its production, sales, and technical support sites there.
Toray has made strengthening frontlines capabilities and supply chain resilience central to TORAY Challenges 2035, its long-term management strategy. The new TORELINA™ production facility in India is part of that initiative. The facility is pivotal to the company’s resin business expansion in India and represents its commitment to reinforcing its position as the world’s top PPS resin manufacturer.
