BASF and Sumitomo Chemical have signed a license agreement that allows BASF to use Sumitomo’s innovative HCl Oxidation globally.
Great news. BASF and Sumitomo Chemical (through its license partner) have signed a license agreement that allows #BASF to use Sumitomo’s innovative HCl Oxidation globally.
At BASF Monomers, we operate production assets for #isocyanates in all key regions – US, Europe and Asia (China and Korea) and produce millions of tons of Isocyanates each year. One side product in this value chain is hydrochloric acid. With Sumitomo’s technology, BASF can now turn this #hydrochloricacid (HCl) back into Chlorine, which is then used again to produce Isocyanates in our plants. This important new process is part of our Verbund spirit and will make our isocyanates production even more productive and resilient in the future.
The agreement marks an important step in our partnership with #Sumitomo and our contracting partner #TechnipEnergies, and it reflects the trust and constructive spirit on all sides.
A big thank-you to everyone who helped bring this together. We’re looking forward to the journey ahead, and to what we can achieve when great, innovative minds work together.
