𝐒𝐮𝐧𝐝𝐚𝐲'𝐬 𝐓𝐇𝐎𝐔𝐆𝐇𝐓𝐅𝐔𝐋 𝐏𝐨𝐬𝐭 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐅𝐫𝐨𝐠 𝐓𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐂𝐡𝐚𝐧𝐠𝐞𝐝 𝐄𝐥𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐫𝐢𝐜𝐢𝐭𝐲 In 1786, Luigi Galvani was dissecting a freshly dead frog on a metal plate (or perhaps preparing lunch, depending on which version of the story you believe). When he touched the frog’s leg with a blade, it twitched. These puzzling results were reproduced and eventually published. Galvanti believed the phenomenon was electrical in nature. But he incorrectly surmised that static electricity was somehow stored in the leg muscle. Alessandro Volta studied this account but was dissatisfied with the conclusion. Volta carefully reverse engineered the experiment, employing the scientific method. He discovered that a mild current was generated by the interaction between two dissimilar metals (in the scalpel and the plate) in the presence of fluid from the frog.
