Mitsubishi Gas Chemical Company, Inc. (MGC) hereby announces that it has decided, at its Board of Directors meeting held on March 31, 2026, to discontinue operations of the #polycarbonate (PC) plant within its #KashimaPlant . Operations are scheduled to be discontinued in March 2028. 1. Reason for discontinuation of production:  MGC’s PC business has been facing challenges in terms of profitability and capital efficiency due to a slump in market prices caused by oversupply and other factors. Accordingly, it has been designated as a business requiring intensive management area under the current medium-term management plan (MTMP 2026), and structural reforms have been underway. The Company has conducted various studies aimed at improving profitability across the MGC Group’s production sites. However, the PC plant at the Kashima Plant has continued to operate at low profits, and improvement in profitability is not likely to be expected going forward. As a result, MGC has decided to d...

Saw this post on "Sustainability Circle" and had to share it: Recycling correctly is challenging, especially when plastic symbols seem like a secret code. The truth is simple: not all plastics are created equal… and not all are recyclable curbside. A quick breakdown that can instantly reduce contamination and boost recycling success: 🔹 1 – PET (Water bottles, soda bottles, peanut butter jars) ✅ Widely recyclable 🔹 2 – HDPE (Milk jugs, detergent bottles, shampoo bottles) ✅ Widely recyclable 🔹 3 – PVC (Clear food packaging, pipes, shower curtains) ❌ Rarely recyclable — choose alternatives when possible 🔹 4 – LDPE (Bread bags, squeeze bottles, grocery bags) ♻️ Sometimes recyclable — depends on local programs 🔹 5 – PP (Yogurt cups, straws, medicine bottles) ♻️ Increasingly accepted — check local rules 🔹 6 – PS (Styrofoam cups, plate...

Today, the #EuropeanCommission published guidelines on the implementation of the Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation ( #PPWR ) to facilitate the uniform application of the new packaging rules across the EU and simplify compliance for economic actors and Member States. The full application of this law will contribute to a more sustainable and competitive packaging sector across the EU and to strengthening the Single Market for packaging through common rules. On average, in 2023, each European generated 178kg of packaging waste. Without intervention, total packaging waste could further rise by 19% by 2030 compared to 2018 levels, while plastic waste could rise by as much as 46%. At the same time, the packaging industry faces significant administrative burdens as a result of divergent national packaging rules across Member States. The guidance document presented today by the Commission clarifies rules where the PPWR need further interpretation and areas where stak...
